Sorry I haven’t updated this blog in FOREVER… My goal is to update fully my study on I Peter. I completed it a while ago, but have not taken the time to type it up and post it. I apologize.
BUT… I have begun a study of God’s Promises. I’m looking forward to posting those things soon, but as a foretaste… I had to post this entry.

Promises to Claim
Tonight I’m in Numbers – Number 14:40
Actually I’m lead to the whole of chapter 14. After traveling into the desert, The Israelites have made it to The Promised Land, well to the edge of it. A group of men go in to explore the land and report back with its greatness – and on the powerful people that inhabit it. All of them, except for Caleb and Joshua, are in fear. They don’t believe that that can make it, and what’s more, they turn the people to grumbling against the Lord. They actually cry out to return to Egypt.
RETURN TO EGYPT???
It amazes me how quickly they forgot the incredible power of God who rescued them. Here they were, about to move into the land they were promised – the end of their mission, and they were suddenly filled with fear.
Looking on the surmounting tasks that laid before them and the risk of failure, they wanted to remain where they were or return to Egypt – what they knew. They were looking at the very promise God had made and were ready to abandon it for what they had already experienced.
This raises a very important point about God’s promises. When God makes us a promise, we are not called to wait for the promise to arrive. He gives us a promise TO CLAIM.
At the precipice of the moment God would fulfill his promise, the Israelites took their eyes off of him and began to look at the task. They forgot that the one who had promised, the one who had said He WOULD, was able to overcome all obstacles in fulfillment of his promise. He was more than able to make them successful…
“Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, He will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but The Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.” – Num 14:6-9
Do not be afraid of the tasks that lay before you pursuing a promise from the Lord. Keep your eyes on him and remember that you are in his protection. He will remain faithful to his promise… Seize it, Claim it, Own it. It is yours to claim. God will bring it to fruition.
