Great things
I don't have a lot of time today, so instead of journalling, typing into word and then posting... I'm typing my thoughts directly into the blog today.
I'm continuing my study through the word TRUST, examining what it means to trust in God. I feel like I've gotten stuck on the same passage from Dueuteronomy 9, but I keep getting new insights from it.
Moses says to the people: "And when the LORD sent you out from Kadesh Barnea, he said, "Go up and take possession of the land I have given you." But you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. You did not trust him or obey him. 24 You have been rebellious against the LORD ever since I have known you." Deut 9:23-24
God had told the people to go up and take possession of the land. It was a beautiful land but filled with people whom the people feared. They were scared and in their fear the built a golden calf to worship, to tell them what they wanted to hear.
God calls us to do amazing things, things above and beyond what we feel are our abilities. Why? Because God believes in us, and because he wants to demonstrate his power in our lives.
Right now I'm going through the process of buying a house. I'm not going through it alone, but as we move forward, my fear continues to rise to the top. In much of my life I have allowed fear to dictate my actions. I have built my own Golden Calves to tell me that I can't do something, it's better to wait... that people will notice me if I just lay low... that I don't want to look foolish, etc. etc. I have built those calves over the course of my life and continually I have missed opportunities or built up a wall of self doubt.
God is calling us to believe that he wants to prove to us that we can do anything he sets before us. We are more than able because he is ALWAYS able. When we don't trust him with the path he has shown us, we are like the Israelites building a calf to tell them what they want to hear.
Tear down the calf, believe in yourself and in God and move forward. There are mountains to climb and beautiful lands to occupy, if you only trust enough to conquer your fear.
